A little about us
We’re very honest about the inspiring improvement journey we’re on. When Northamptonshire Children’s Trust (NCT) was created in November 2020 to deliver children’s social care services on behalf of the Council, children’s services were ‘Inadequate.’ Since then, NCT has been working collaboratively with North and West Northamptonshire Councils and other key partners to improve services for children, young people and their families.
After several monitoring visits, October 2022 saw the first full inspection of children’s services (across both Councils) by Ofsted since the inception of NCT, lifting children’s services out of ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Requires improvement to be Good.’ Among many things, Ofsted noted that “children in need of help and protection receive much better support than they need did at the time of inspection in 2019”.

Our commitment
At NCT, we’re committed to do all that we can to ensure children, young people and families in Northamptonshire live safely, fulfil their potential, develop resilience and enjoy good health and wellbeing.
As an organisation, we are hugely ambitious for children and their families. With any improvements we seek to make, we always start with a simple question: What is life like for children, young people and families? And then we ask: How can we help make it better?
Working with key partners, we aspire to deliver outstanding social care services, ensuring families receive early help to prevent difficulties from escalating, and create the best conditions for social work practice to flourish.
A shared vision
Our vision, strategic framework and conditions for success have been developed in consultation with children, young people, parents, families, our workforce and our strategic partners.
We place children, young people and families at the heart of all we do – in every action we take and every decision we make.
Delivering this vision is not just a job for NCT; it’s a shared responsibility with our strategic partners, the voluntary sector and the wider community. Together, we aim to:

Ensure the voice of children and young people drives our practice and strengthens relationships with parents and carers to help co-produce effective solutions.

Focus our early help services on building resilience within families so that they are better able to help, support and protect their children without the need for statutory interventions.

Take a reflective, collaborative and strengths-based approach to working with the whole family so that parents are supported to make positive lasting change.

Work with our partners and invest in integrated services that bring together collective ideas, talent and resources to better meet the needs of children and young people.

Work to promote strong and meaningful relationships with our partners to take a whole-system approach to improving our services and outcomes for the families we support.
Our values
Children's and young people's voices inform our values, which are the guiding principles for every action we take and decision we make. These are to:

Child focused, working with the whole family

Make a difference with trust and integrity

Concentrate on the best solution

Act with respect, kindness and compassion

Communicate well

Do the best job of your life every single day
Life in Northamptonshire
If you’re looking to relocate to Northamptonshire, you’ll love the local area. The county has an eclectic mix of industrial towns, historic market towns and quaint countryside villages, offering something for everyone. There are more than 170 parks and a wide range of outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Within an hour’s drive of London to the south and Birmingham to the North, you’ll find Northampton, one of the UK’s biggest towns that offers plenty of employment opportunities and an average house price of just over £260k.
Being in the heart of the country, Northamptonshire is also not too far from Oxford, Cambridge, Leicester and other city centres.
Innovation in practice
NCT is wholly owned and funded but operationally independent from the council. This provides our workforce with unique opportunities to explore new ways of working and to be more agile in our approach to service delivery.
