Signs of safety
Signs of Safety is NCT’s core practice model.
It helps us to make sure that children, young people and families are at the heart of all we do – in every action we take and every decision we make.
The model enables us to build better relationships and work collaboratively with families to create safety plans focused on their strengths, networks and resources.
Every practitioner and service within the organisation is Signs of Safety trained and there are plenty of courses for you to access to strengthen your knowledge.

Research-based training
NCT is a member of Making Research Count (MRC), a national collaborative research initiative involving several universities.
This is of enormous benefit to our workforce, as they can directly access workshops, seminars, regional events and emerging research summaries to build their knowledge-based practice.
We also provide access to Research in Practice that brings together academic research, practice expertise and the experiences of people accessing services to support evidence-informed practice.
The right conditions for success
We have the right conditions for you to thrive. These were carefully developed from a series of ’58-minute’ workforce sessions with our Chief Executive, Colin Foster. They fit together like a jigsaw – each piece reliant on the other.

We commit to recruiting, developing and retaining a committed, skilful and child-centred workforce and provide them with an environment where good practice will flourish.
Strong relationship-based practice.

We work strategically with our core partners to share responsibility for driving our improvement plan, and our workforce pursues effective multi-agency practice.
Robust and effective resource management.
We are an effective, high-performing trust with high standards of resource management.
We all want each other to succeed
At NCT, everyone is travelling in the same direction. We are ambitious for all children, young people and families and understand that we each have a critical role in making a difference to their outcomes.
We work strategically with our partners to ensure that positive opportunities and effective help are available at the earliest opportunity.
We look out for one another and ensure that there is plenty of opportunity for reflective discussion and sharing of best practice.
